Brief Introduction: Department of Physiology was started in the year 1964 under Prof. Late Dr. K.G. Heblikar. The department currently has an intake of 150 MBBS students annually. MD Physiology began in 2001 with 1 seat/year, increased to 2 seats/year in 2011.
Academic Programme:
- MBBS: Theory lectures, demonstrations, practicals, clinical exams, tutorials, seminars, quizzes, integrated teaching.
- PG: Seminars, journal clubs, microteaching, demonstrations.
Programme Details: MBBS: 5 lectures, 4 practicals weekly, tutorials every Friday, monthly seminars/quizzes. PG: Friday seminars, Saturday journal clubs.
Infrastructure: Fully equipped AC lecture hall with AV facilities, hematology, experimental & clinical physiology labs, research lab with advanced equipment, departmental library with updated books and journals.
Achievements: Hosted PHYSICON 2005 with over 600 delegates, including international attendees from UAE, Brazil, China.

Achievements of Dept.:
Dept. has organized XVII Annual Conference of Physiological Society of India - PHYSICON 2005 from 1st to 3rd Dec. 2005. This event was sponsored by DRDO, ICMR and RGUHS Bengaluru. More than 600 delegates from all over India and foreign delegates (UAE, Brazil and China) have participated in the event.
Research Activities:
Department is actively involved in reserach work. Over 21 reserach papers have been published by our faculty members in various National and International Journals.
