Introduction
From a tiny fetus in the womb of medicine department Paediatrics today has a independent and grand existence as a specialty and has grown leaps and bounds to be big department .
Our Department of Paediatrics started and it’s Post Graduate courses in 1979 under the stewardship of the then, DrJammihal, followed by a long innings by Dr. Mallikarjun Bhandar.
The baton was then passed successively to Dr.H.Veerbhadrappa, the present president of Karnataka medical council and the then to Dr.N.G.Gachinmani and Dr.S.W.Shrikant.who continued the legacy of excellence in Paediatric teaching and patient care. The department is currently headed by Dr. Basawaraj M Patil We started our NICU experience with small rooms, 3 bedded A/C room, hot air blower for warm care and others to present state of art ventilators, incubators, phototherapy, NIBP, multichannel monitors, electronic weighing machines etc.
Our PICU caters to the need of sick older children with all modern gadgets and continuous monitoring. Health care delivery of the department caters to the people of north Karnataka as referral center.
The department boasts of experienced staff along with junior staff who have undergone training in various specialties like neonatology, development neurology, intensive care and endocrinology.
We have organized innumerable CMEs and conducted conference and workshops of state and zonal levels.
Our department is a center of excellence for UG & PG study’s and also for various specialties and routinely train staff of government sector too and is known for its penchant for excellence and regularity in UG and PG teaching with an excellent track record in Academics. We have 6 MD & 2 DCH admissions annually.
We are Divisional Headquarters for the last 8 year in conducting Quiz in Paediatrics and Neonatology for various medical colleges in North Karnataka at UG and PG level.
