DEPARTMENT OF FORENSIC MEDICINE

Introduction

With establishment of M.R.Medical College our department started in the year 1964. Postgraduate course started from 1982-83 with the permission of MCI for 2 MD and 3 DFM admissions per year. Both undergraduate and postgraduate courses are recognized by MCl. Our department has started doing postmortem examination from 2002 in government general hospital. In 2009 well equipped mortuary was provided in BTGH, and since 2010 post mortem is been conducted till date. Government of Karnataka appointed Head of the department of Forensic Medicine as a Medico-Legal Expert to give opinion in all the complicated cases sent by the medical officers of various government hospitals of 3 districts (Gulbarga, Bidar and Yadgir).

Academic Programme

The department is currently teaching the undergraduate students of III, IV and V semesters of II MBBS degree. Post graduate students enrolled for MD Forensic Medicine.

U.G.: 2 Theory classes and 2 Practical classes for each batch with seminars and tutorials
P.G.: 1 Seminar & 1 Journal reading and 1 Medico-Legal Case discussion (Expert opinion cases and Postmortem cases) every week.
