    From the start of M.R.Medical College in 1963 a separate ENT department was started in the year 1970 and Dr.B.G.Jawali was first HOD to head the department who later became president of HKE Society for five times. During his tenure the ih State ENT conference was organized, the department was well equipped with microscope, rigid scopes available at those times. Postgraduate Diploma course started in 1981 and M.S. (ENT) course started in 1982. It was the first PG course to be started in MR.Medical college.The ENT department was run in govt gen hospital Gulbarga attached to M.R.Medical college From the inception. 

    From 1991 to 2002 Dr.Karanje took over the charge of HOD .During his tenure along with attachment of govt general hospital a separate ENT department was started from 1995 at Basaveshwar hospital. Department was well equipped with Carl Ziess microscope, Microdrill, Ear, MLS, Rhinoplasty instruments, Nasal endoscopy Many wo rkshops were conducted on ear and nose in his tenure.

   From 2002 to 2010 Dr.Mallikarjun Reddy took over HOD charge. During his tenure the ENT department from govt general hospital was completely shifted to Basaveshwar hospital in 2003.ln his tenure a well organized 2ih State level conference & MRMC ENT Alumini meet was conducted in the year 2009 which is well remembered even today. Many workshops like Rhinoplasty ,Microscopic ear surgery,FESS,Cleft lip and palate were conducted. Temporal bone lab was set up .. Full set of Nasal endoscopic instruments along with camera,endoscopic and micro ear instruments,Stapedectomy sets,Rhinoplasty sets were procured.During his tenure two PGs have taken gold medal from RGUHS.

   From 2010 Dr.V.S.Patil took over charge of HOD. During his time work shop on Sleep Apnea, Cadeveric FESS and endoscopic Tympanoplasty were conducted. Skull Base Surgery was started being jointly carried out along with Neurosurgeon. One staff had taken Gold medal in Karnataka state conference in scientific paper presentation.

From 2013, Dr.R.B.Chapparbandi took over charge and during his time workshop on cochlear implant and talk on ENT practice in UK and India was conducted.

   From December 2014, Dr.C.B.Nandyal has taken over the charge of HOD. Presently separate temporal bone lab, Nasal Endoscopy room & Ear microscopy have been created for training of postgraduate students. Two guest lectures were conducted. Audio visual set up in operation theatre was update by introducing camera facility to microscope and nasal endoscope to demonstrate live surgeries to UG and PG students. Many new equipments like 3 chip HD camera with monitor for nasal & Laryngeal endoscopy, Camera connectivity to zeiss ear microscope ,latest micro ear ,nasal endoscopy, video laryngoscopy instruments were added to the department.

Presently we have 2 MS and 2 DLO admissions per year.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMME AND ITS DETAILS 

Under graduate:

Theory class: All staff members engage theory classes as per RGUHS guidelines Clinical. Postings: 2 month clinical posting for each batch which includes opd case demonstration, bedside clinics, case discussion, OT, Instruments & X ray teaching, Seminars & Tutorials.

Internal Assessment tests: Three theory tests & two Practical exams are conducted.

Post Graduate teaching:

Seminars every Tuesday, Case presentation/Journal Reading every Friday

Grand rounds: Every Tuesday by all the staff with HOD

Thesis Review by respective guides every week

Posterl Paper presentation: Encourage all the PG students to present poster/Paper in Various conferences

Publications: Encourage the PG students to publish research articles in the journals

Internal Assessment Tests: One university pattern mock exam two months before the final theory exam conducted apart from regular tests eminars & Tutorials.

INFRASTRUCTURE

We have a well equipped department with the following facilities

OPD : 4 Cubicles with ENT OPO instruments and examination set up

Operation Theatre along with all the basic Ear Nose Throat instruments OT is well equipped with latest equipments like 3 chip HD camera with monitor for nasal & Laryngeal endoscopy, Zeiss ear microscope with Camera connectivity, latest micro ear, nasal endoscopy, video micro laryngoscopy, rhinoplasty, Head & neck, oesophagoscopy,bronchoscopy and also audio visual connectivity to seminar room

Temporal Bone Lab with operating microscope, micro motor drill, temporal bone holder and micro ear instruments

Nasal Endoscopy room with Nasal endoscopic camera, TV monitor and basic ONE instruments

Audiometry Room

Vestibular testing lab

Seminar Room fully equipped with audio visual Aids connected to the OT Department Library updated regularly by adding latest edition text books and journals with more than 200 text books and journals

Clinical demonstration room with Audio Visual & teaching Aids

Staff & PG Research Library with internet facility and more that 50 text books & journals

Museum with specimens ,slides ,charts, models.
