Community Medicine

     The Department of Community Medicine at M.R.Medical College was started in 1964 with the establishment of the prestigious institution and since its inception it has been an important centre of learning for Graduates and Post Graduates. The department imparts training to the students and it aims to produce high quality community health professionals who can study critically and manage existing health programmes at all levels. Post graduation was started in the year 1983 with 2 seats and was recognized by the MCI in 2001-02 since then, the department has evolved towards discovery of new knowledge in the domain of Community health.

Academic Programs

Undergraduate Teaching and Post Graduate Teaching

    Under the able leadership of Dr. C R Naidu as the first Head of the Department was successively lead by the stalwarts in the field of Community medicine like Dr. Iyengar, Dr. Laxmanacharylu, Dr. D P Narsimhamurty, Dr. S S Reshmi, Dr. S G Tenglikar, Dr. Rajashekhar Kapate and presently it is headed by Dr. S. R. Nigudgi. The faculty and Post Graduates of Community Medicine render health services to the marginalized population of an urban resettlement of Rajapur and intensive health care services are provided at rural Field practice area of Hebbal.

  1. Conduct of 12 Theory classes per week
  2. Conduct of2 Practicals per week in ih semester.
  3. Conduct of Morning po stings daily at Urban Field Practice area and other field visits for 3rd, 4th and 6th semester students (1 month each semester).
  4. Visits to Outside agencies (Filter Bed, Reservoir, Blind School, Deaf & Dumb school, State home for women, Biomedical Waste Management, Milk Diary, Dist TB Centre, Dist Lab, Malaria & Filaria Centre, Statistical Office, Industry, Slaughter house, Market, Hotels)
  5. Conduct of Theory Classes and po stings of Interdisciplinary courses (Homeopathy, N ursing ansi Medicosocial workers)
  6. Conduct of tutorials regularly in 6th semester.

Undergraduate Teaching

  1. Conduct of Seminars, Group Discussions & Panel Discussion regularly.
  2. Conduct of Projects & Health Education activities
  3. Syllabus completion within assigned period.
  4. Test assignments and documentation of data done regularly.
  5. Review of results done regularly.
  6. Monitoring of attendance of students done regularly .

Postgraduate Teaching

  1.  Conduct of Postgraduate teaching activities every week regularly.
  2.  Seminars, Medico social case study, Family study, Journal Club and pedagogy are done regularly.
  3.  Po stings at Rural Health Training Center for 1 month per year.
  4.  Po stings at Urban Health Training Center.
  5.  stings in Allied departments ( Pathology, Microbiology, Paediatrics & OBG) regularly
